our approach
corporate responsibility
Cavendish Engineers takes great pride in its commitment to the environment.
In 2009 we decided to extend our ISO accreditations and gained our ISO14001.
We have successfully introduced a recycling scheme, where over 2 years we
have reduced our head office waste by 80%.
We are very active in using our people’s enthusiasm for engineering to help
those both locally and internationally.
In 2010, Cavendish used its engineering knowledge to help an area in Haiti,
after the tragic earthquake took so many homes and lives. As Cavendish already
had a commercial interest in the neighbouring country Dominican Republic,
we wanted to do something on the ground that would make a difference.
Thanks to our suppliers generosity, we delivered over 10 million litres of
water to the make shift camp of Sosua.
However, we wanted to ensure that we
could give a long term solution to those who desperately needed it. We teamed
up with the Dutch engineering manufacturer to install a low energy water tank
system. The system used engineering technology to purify the collected well
water. This meant that not only did it provide clean water, but it used the
recycled water to provide a washing option. This solution was to radically
reduce the level of disease in the camp, and therefore giving a much better
mortality rate. A case study on this story is available from our Media centre.
Other community projects over the years have included;
sponsoring the local young Stevenage football team, sponsoring the local ladies golf team,
supporting charity Essex Air Ambulance and sponsoring young children in the Dominican Republic.
In early 2012 we hope to launch the Cavendish Engineering Student of the year
competition. The competition will be open to London based students,
aged 16 – 25, where students will be asked to propose an engineering solution.
The winner of the competition will win a summer placement with the engineering
team and will have the experience of working on well regarded technology client
projects. Details (when available) will be shown on our Media Centre.
